Powerscourt National School Philosophy Workshop.

Students Johnny Cunnane (4th Year) and Harry O’Leary (6th Year) recently joined Ms. O’Brien-Quinn in leading a philosophy workshop for primary school students at Powerscourt National School, Enniskerry.

The aim of the workshop was to introduce the students to philosophical inquiry and inspire them to create projects for submission to the Irish Young Philosopher Awards (IYPA).

During the session, students explored the ideas of classical philosophers like Plato and Aristotle, while also learning about Gonzaga’s extensive achievements in the IYPA, which served as motivation for the primary school pupils to develop their own philosophical questions. Johnny and Harry guided the students through ‘Socratic circles,’ encouraging critical thinking and fostering individual reflection.

The students of Powerscourt National School were heavily engaged in the subject, and many displayed great knowledge of philosophy.

The workshop was a resounding success, with both students and teachers enjoying a day full of intellectual exploration.

We are extremely grateful to the students and staff of Powerscourt National School for allowing us to come to their school, and we hope to see them in UCD with their projects and ours in May.
