Congratulations to James Cunningham (1C) who won the National Cyclocross U14 championships in Limerick last weekend.
In a thrilling race, James led on the first lap with the lead changing hands a couple of times before he went to the front in a technical section and then opened a gap on the rest of the field for the remaining laps. He rode strongly and with great composure to keep the lead to the finish line coming in 18 secs ahead of the second placed rider.
Now that James is the new All Ireland Champion, and because he has won in his first year, it means he will have the honour of competing in competition next year wearing the National Jersey. This is a relatively uncommon situation as the older competitors tend to prevail and because they are moving up in age category, never get the chance to wear the National Champion's Jersey in competition.
Thanks to Keith Cunningham for the information & excellent photos.
