Mild and pleasant weather provided the perfect conditions for the 2020 East Leinster Cross Country Championships to take place yesterday. 18 boys from First to Fifth Year represented Gonzaga at Avondale House in County Wicklow. Eoghan Mac Muiris won the Junior B race (2,000m). In a very competitive Senior field and a challenging 5k course Patrick Hickey ran to 10th place and qualified for the Leinster Championship. Dylan Sanders running the challenging Inters course narrowly missed qualifying for the Leinsters by coming in 16th place. With over 200 runners starting, the Minor A race was the most competitive of the day. The Gonzaga boys pushed through the crowds and with impressive skill, fortitude and stamina Eoghan O’Donovan (4th), Tom Conway (15th), Max Duggan (19th), Tom Cooney (20th), Sean Hanley (58th) and Hugh Lenihan (74th) won as the best team and brought home Gonzaga’s first Minor Cross Country Shield.
