Trip to Greece September 2016

During the first week of school, Leaving Cert Ancient Greek students embarked on a 10-day study tour with third level students of classics and archeology as part of the IIHSA's (Irish Institute for Hellenic Studies in Athens) annual educational tour. We explored the most important archeological sites and museums on mainland Greece, spanning from the neolithic period up through the byzantine era. Highlights included: the Athenian Acropolis, the Sanctuary of Apollo at Delphi, the Byzantine monastery of Osios Loukas, the Ancient Theatre of Epidauros, and the Sanctuary of Zeus in Olympia- the site of the Ancient Olympic Games.

2015 Sixth Year Rome Trip

Over the midterm break, twenty five Sixth Years embarked on a 4 day tour of all that Rome has to offer students of Ancient Greek, Latin and Classical Studies. We visited many archeological sites, including the Colosseum, Forum, Palatine hill, the Catacombs of San Callisto, and Ancient Ostia. The museum collections of the Ara Pacis, Capitoline Museum, and Palazzo Massimo helped to transport us through the history of Rome, with highlights from the Etruscans all the way through the Renaissance and Baroque periods. We marveled at the beauty of such impressive sacred spaces as the Pantheon, Sant’Ignazio, the Gesú, and St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. And of course, we took as much time as possible in between these sites to experience the gelato, pizza, and city life of Rome today.
